Mr Moy
Mr Moy playing the set in Orangeville, Canada in 1988. Mr Moy disliked being filmed because he knew that his students would try to copy him exactly, whereas he taught different things to different people according to their needs. Mr Moy’s body is so soft, and his tai chi so internal, that it’s not easy to see what he’s doing. His balance is so secure that we never notice that the surface on which he is playing is not flat.
Other set videos
The video my students find most useful is this one of Kevin Werre (Alberta CA), which is filmed from the rear – the view students often have in class. Kevin has slowed this down to 20 minutes, but when Mr Moy led a set he often took 20 minutes, so this is not unduly slow. Many years ago a typical pace for the set was 16 minutes.
Kevin also has this video just of the first 17 moves at a more conventional tempo:
Teaching videos
You can’t learn Tai Chi from videos, but they can support what you do in class.
The Canadian Tai Chi Academy has a new (2026) youtube channel with a series of practice videos which make an excellent revision of what you have done in class.
If you want more detail about the moves, check out Kevin Werre’s youtube channel, Awareness Tai Chi.
